Organizers’ Name: Prof. Shiho Kim, Dr. Ashutosh Mishra, Ms. Mushtariy Bonu, and Mr. Jinhyuk Kim
Organization: School of Integrated Technology, Yonsei University, South Korea
Funding: This workshop is sponsored by the BK21 Program for Intelligent Semiconductor Technology Yonsei University, and by the Brain Pool Program through the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) funded by the Ministry of Science and ICT (NRF-2019H1D3A1A01071115)
Summary: With the rapid advancement of automotive technology, human-computer interaction (HCI) has become increasingly integral to the operation of modern vehicles. The current automobility becomes more reliant on HCI and data-driven technologies, ensuring user data privacy should be a top priority. Manufacturers, service providers, and policymakers must work together to strike a balance between innovation and safeguarding individuals' privacy rights This workshop delves into the critical question of how safe these interactions are in the context of current automobility. The study investigates the multifaceted aspects of HCI in automobiles, including voice recognition systems, touchscreens, gesture controls, and in-cabin monitoring that have gained prominence in recent years. It examines the potential distractions posed by these technologies and their impact on user data privacy. Furthermore, this workshop focuses on the research that analyzes the role of automation and AI in mitigating risks associated with HCI. It evaluates the effectiveness of advanced assistance systems in enhancing privacy during human-computer interactions. This workshop also explores the challenges posed by the integration of smartphones and other personal devices into the vehicle's HCI ecosystem, focusing on issues of driver/ occupant’s personal information and the potential for increased risk of privacy breach. In addition, this workshop assesses the regulatory framework and industry standards governing HCI in automobility, aiming to highlight areas where improvements are needed to ensure user data privacy during these interactions. Therefore, this workshop aims to provide insights into user data privacy implications of HCI in current automobility, offering recommendations for both technological innovation and policy development to enhance the overall user data privacy of human-computer interactions in the automotive context.
Topics of discussion during the workshop include (but are not limited to):
Overview, challenges, and issues of individual privacy in HCI-based current automotive technology.
Case studies on the issues of individual privacy in HCI-based current automotive technology.
Policy making, guidelines to enhance the overall user data privacy during human-computer interactions in the automotive context.
Metaverse-based services for current and future advanced vehicles.
